Circular cycling route through Kielder Forest on forest roads and gravel tracks. Mostly well-surfaced with some short climbs.

Accessibility

Suitable for confident cyclists with appropriate bikes — road bikes are not suitable. The main forest road is well-surfaced. E-bikes are available for hire at Kielder Castle visitor centre.

Atmosphere

Remote, quiet and atmospheric — world-class art installations appear unexpectedly deep in the forest. One of England's most distinctive cycling routes.

Seasons

Best from spring to autumn. Some gravel tracks are muddy in winter. The Observatory is most spectacular on clear autumn and winter nights — book in advance.

Safety

Very remote with limited mobile signal throughout. Plan your route carefully and carry food, water and a map. Weather can change quickly in the uplands.
